Since 1982, the United States has listed Cuba as one of the State Sponsors of Terrorism for their alleged support for acts of international terrorism.
Today, after 33 years, President Obama has endorsed removing Cuba from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list as per the US State Department’s recommendation.
Cuba’s placement on the list has created difficulties in many aspects of Cuban government and non-governmental sectors. These sanctions have allowed the US to impose fines of billions of dollars on international banks, who are currently unwilling to allow the Cuban diplomats at the Cuban Interest Section and UN Mission to even open a checking account! Not surprisingly, Cuba has been unwilling to allow the US to open an embassy in Havana while still listed as a country which sponsors terrorism.
Cuba needs you!!
Cuba will not come off the list until a 45-day review period by the House and Senate. If you believe it is time to take Cuba off the list and to restore diplomatic relations with Cuba, let your members of Congress know.
They urgently need to hear from you! The deadline is May 29!
IFCO/Pastors for Peace is pleased to see this move towards a “normal” relationship with our neighbors 90 miles away.
