IFCO is pleased to report that on July 17th ECFMG announced that they will resume processing service requests for applicants from institutions in Cuba. As previously announced, ECFMG was not processing such requests, pending approval of its license application for Cuban entities by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), a branch of the U.S. Department of Treasury. This will allow current ELAM students and alumni to continue applying for US licensing exams, residencies and credential verification services.
As the entity responsible for facilitating the scholarship program for US students and playing a vital role in ensuring that ELAM was recognized by ECFMG, IFCO applauds the efforts of OFAC and ECFMG for allowing the continued success of ELAM students and graduates as they transition into the US after graduation. We also thank members of Congress who have historically supported the ELAM scholarship program, those who provided legal support, and our network of supporters who during this waiting period, investigated and advocated for the speedy processing of the ECFMG licensing application.
