EMAIL the White House here

Dear President Barack Obama,

Thank you for your bold leadership since December 17, 2014 for working with President Raul Castro to re-establish diplomatic relations between the US and Cuba, for removing Cuba from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, for working with Cuba to open embassies, and of course for being the first sitting US President to visit Cuba in 88 years.

As a person of faith and conscience, I believe that the time has come to bring an end to the blockade and other cruel policies against the people of Cuba.  According to a recent Gallup poll, a majority of Americans – 54 percent – currently see Cuba in a favorable light. The nation’s favorability rating has gone up across the U.S. political spectrum!   Given this overwhelming support I urge you to go beyond what you have already done and:

  • Use your executive powers to unilaterally lift the ban on Cuban imports into the US, allow transactions in dollars-not just via credit through other countries
  • Close the Guantanamo Naval Base by returning it to the people of Cuba

We recognize that this is a critical time in US-Cuba relations and that we too must support you in order to bring an end to the blockade and other cruel policies against the people of Cuba.  That is why I want you to know that I fully support HR 3238, introduced by Congressman Tom Emmer (R-MN 6th), the Cuba Trade Act of 2015, HR 664, introduced by Congressman Mark Sanford (R-SC 1st), the Freedom to Travel to Cuba Act of 2015. S 1543, introduced by Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Senator Angus King (I-ME)), the Cuba Trade Act of 2015. S 299, introduced by Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ), the Freedom to Travel to Cuba Act of 2015 that were introduced in Congress last January.

My hope is that you will be able to sign these bills into law and finally end the blockade and travel ban before the end of your Presidential term.  The time to end the embargo and travel ban is now!
